Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You take the time to run another blank.

This is the real-life decision made by lab director Donald Cortes. He says there are always time pressures, but you can't cut corners.

"You run a blank to make sure that your system is clean," he says. "And you do that on a prescribed basis you've set up. If you were to cut that corner out, you risk reporting a number that may not be real, because it was carried over into the instrument."
