Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You ride in the competition and hope for the best.

You enter the dressage ring at a walk, and think that your horse feels better. You halt at the center of the ring and then proceed at a trot.

Suddenly, right in front of the judge, you feel your horse stumble. The judge watches for a moment, then halts your test. She asks you to come over and tells you how disappointed she is that you are riding a lame horse.

"You can make injuries much worse by riding through them," says Jack Polo, an equestrian. "You might make the horse develop a chronic injury. Then you might have to face a really hard decision in the future -- whether to keep the horse or have it put down. Nobody wants to do that."
