It will come as no surprise that a retail salesperson should be good with numbers. Day in, day out, they deal with money. And some may be required to keep track of inventory.

Commissioned sales staff need to be especially number-conscious in order to calculate their earnings and be wary of income fluctuations.

"I probably make a quarter of my year's salary during November and December," says electronics salesperson Grace Kelly. "So I have to plan ahead and invest for the slow months."

You're working in a kitchen store. You're in the middle of a big sale when your cash till breaks down.

There's only one calculator in the store and it's being used by someone else right now. You're going to have to write out the bills by hand.

Your customer is thinking of purchasing a cappuccino machine and wants to know what it will cost before he decides to buy it.

The machine is $130 regularly, but it's on sale for 30 percent off today.

You'll also have to figure out what the taxes add up to. Tax on this item is 8 percent.

How much is your customer's cappuccino machine going to cost?
