Real-Life Communication -- Solution

You are figuring out if an employee can claim a child tax credit. This is what you discovered:

1. What are the requirements to collect a child tax credit?

You must be financially supporting the child. They must be under the age of 17. They must also be your child, adopted child, grandchild, stepchild or foster child.

2. What is a credit?

Normally, you have to pay income tax on all the money you make. A credit is part of your income that you don't have to pay income tax on.

3. What is the maximum amount that the credit can be?

The maximum credit amount allowed is $400.

"Both verbal communication skills, because how you say something and how a question is phrased could determine a very different answer, and then secondarily the ability to publish and draft material about benefits clearly is very important," says benefits manager Paul Nerland.
