In this particular case, you should recognize that the test should be terminated, says Barbara Bushman, an exercise physiologist.

"Anytime you're helping an individual with a health-related problem, you have to be able to respond and react quickly," says Bushman. "You need to recognize if the patient isn't responding, and you need to know when to terminate the task."
