Real-Life Decision Making

You have a small but growing private practice that you run out of an office in your home. Business is good, but could be better.

A fellow chiropractor calls one day to warn you that a former patient of his is on the way to your office. Seems this patient has been in the care of every other chiropractor in the city. Her chronic back problems require surgery -- all the doctors agree -- yet the woman insists that a "good" chiropractor could cure her ills.

Your friend just wanted to warn you. The woman probably won't mention the surgery unless you ask, and the whole thing could cause headaches further down the road. The woman has called several of her former doctors "incompetent" because they couldn't fix her back. Not good advertising for any practice!

Do you take this patient on, despite the risks? Your practice needs the work and you may be able to solve the woman's back woes. What do you do?
