Local Area Network Administration Technician

Real-Life Decision Making

You are a local area network administration technician who works for an IT services business. About two weeks ago, one of your clients solicited your network relocation services as his business was expanding. You were also required to expand his server.

It is the evening of a long and busy day. You finally have the time to relax so decide to read up on a new kind of software you were very interested in hearing about. Finally, you head up to bed.

You are suddenly awakened by your work cellphone ringing by your ear. As you pick up the phone, you look at the time. It is 1 a.m. A colleague is on the other end of the phone. He tells you there is a problem with one of the networks. The network belongs to the client who you helped two weeks ago. The problem needs to be looked at before the business opens at 8 a.m.

"Wrong decisions in this industry cost your employer lots of money, and make you look bad," says Ibrahim Hamouda. Hamouda is president of an IT services company.
