Real-Life Math -- Solution

First you have to figure out how many new people will be hired in total:

3 + 12 = 15

You will be adding 15 people to the network configuration -- which already holds 30.

30 + 15 = 45
50 - 45 = 5

After you've added the 15 new people to the system, you'll still have 5 nodes to spare. After that, you will have to expand the server's capacity or add another server.

"The closest math skills involved would be in regards to setting up the initial network by calculating an adequate number of workstations a certain router/server can handle," says Paul Skrzyniak. Skrzyniak co-owns a computer services business in Toronto.

"You never want to overload these items as your network can suffer performance issues," he adds.
