Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You decide to halt production of the road.

This is what geological engineer Ken Simonar recommends in this situation. "A poor job was done in assessing the site in the first place," says Simonar. "But you can't let political pressures override decisions that need to be made."

It's often difficult to make decisions about where roads can be built. For example, creating logging roads can be challenging because there can't be any sedimentation let into rivers and streams next to the roadways. "With roads, there are a lot of risks and repercussions that can happen. You really have to think your decisions through carefully."
