Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution
You point out that you have signed contracts from each of them,
and if they prevent you from performing your job, you will quit.
When the problems begin, you decide to take an aggressive approach. You
tell the client that if he continues to prevent you from doing your job, you
will have no choice but to walk off the project. Furious, the client threatens
to sue. You tell him to go ahead -- after all, you have signed contracts to
support your position.
Faced with your ultimatum, the client reluctantly backs down. You finish
the project without any more interference. But you decide never to work with
this client again.
This is the real-life decision that Mike Taylor would make if faced with
this type of situation today.
"In retrospect, if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't try to be a nice
guy," he says. "Most people are reasonable. But in a few cases,
you have to be aggressive."
