Real-Life Math -- Solution

You're a securities administrator just beginning to look into the operations of a questionable company. The first thing you do is look at the company's balance sheet. At the top of each balance sheet, Anne's Fruit Emporium lists their assets. So this is where you begin:

  1. What are the total fixed assets for 2003?

You need to add the column of fixed assets and subtract the depreciation of farm equipment.

    Fixed assets for 2003 = ($20,000 - $8,000) + $15,000
    Fixed assets for 2003 = $27,000

  2. What are the total fixed assets for 2004?

    Fixed assets for 2004 = ($45,000 - $10,000) + $25,000
    Fixed assets for 2004 = $60,000

  3. What are the total assets for 2003?

    Total overall assets for 2003 = $37,000 + $27,000
    Total overall assets for 2003 = $64,000

  4. What are the total assets for 2004?

    Total overall assets for 2004 = $55,000 + $60,000
    Total overall assets for 2004 = $115,000
