Real-Life Decision Making

Journeyperson sheet metal workers often work with apprentices.

"Sometimes, when you're in a hurry to get something finished, you'll pass on some of the easier work to an apprentice," says Mike Paul.

You are working on a custom ventilation hood for a restaurant. This is an important job to your company, since the restaurant is a good client. The restaurant needs the hood as soon as possible. You need to get moving.

You have a first-year apprentice working in the shop with you. If you throw some of the cutting work his way, it could save you some time.

On the other hand, if the apprentice makes a mistake you'll have to start over again and the job will take even longer.

Your apprentice is keen for a chance to help out. What would you do?
