Real-Life Math

Math can be used many ways in this profession.

"Research is a major component, so anybody should be able to understand statistics and how to interpret them. We also work with sizes and shapes of exhibits and exhibit halls, net square footage, [and] market analysis," says marketing consultant Steve Miller.

You are the marketing and sales development coordinator for Fly Rite Kite Co. You've decided to use a rectangular sign for Fly Rite's booth at the trade show.

This sign is 64 inches wide and 32 inches tall.

But wait! You've just had another idea! You're going to have the sign cut into 2 equal triangles and you are going to use both sides of the triangles. How much area will you have on each triangle for the ad copy?

To find the area of a triangle, use this formula:

A = 1/2 (base)(height)
