Orthotists provide a medical service to patients and clients. When determining the proper orthosis for a particular patient, you have to communicate well.

Orthotists talk to the patient and their parents to discuss what's wrong with them, how they run their lifestyle, and what they want to do. "Each individual is unique," says Yvonne Jeffreys. She is a certified orthotist.

You are an orthotist. A middle-aged man and his daughter come in to see you. The young woman looks at you. "Dad had a stroke a while ago. He needs your help because he falls a lot," she explains.

Jeffreys says it's a good idea to have a set of questions for the patient. You need to find out how the man uses his body, what sort of activities he does on a daily basis, and so on.

What questions would you ask to determine the patient's lifestyle and needs?
