Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Here's what you could tell your team:

"OK team, there are 25 seconds on the clock, so I want this to be the last possession of the game. I want the ball to be inbounded to the point guard, since he is our best ball handler. I don't want you to try anything fancy.

"I want the two tallest guys on the team to stand underneath the net. I want our best intermediate shooter to hover just inside the three-point line. The point guard will use them as decoys. The point guard will then use some time on the clock and then pass the ball to the guys under the net.

"If there is too much traffic, don't hesitate to pass the ball to the intermediate shooters. If, for some reason, the coverage on the intermediate shooters is too great, I want the point guard to shoot a three-pointer, so stay close to the three-point line. This should be our final option. Good luck, guys, and bring home a win."

If you've been working out your vocal chords and pulling mean faces in the mirror, stop now. Ross Tomlinson says that the days of the red-faced coach are over.

"I think that the day of dictator as a coach is long gone. People don't respond well to that type of temperament anymore."
