You are a conservation restoration technician working at a museum. Like many museums, you have an exhibit of local history.

A woman comes into the museum one day with a group of old photographs she discovered while cleaning out her parents' attic. She wants to donate them to the museum. Since several of the photos are nearly 100 years old and of important city sites, you gratefully accept her offer.

One of the photos of the city hall is so good that you show it to the senior conservator at the museum. He takes it to the curator, who decides it will be displayed in the local history exhibit. To prepare the photo for the exhibit, you'll need to frame it.

You want to make sure that the glass frame doesn't damage the photos. In order to prevent this, you decide to place the photo in a cardboard matting. The picture slides into the matting, which acts as a buffer between the photos and the glass.

The museum has matting and picture frames in all sizes. However, you need to purchase the glass for the photo. In order to decide how much glass to buy, and the cost of the glass, you'll need to calculate the total area of the matting.

You've decided there should be an extra 1 1/4 inches of matting on each of the four sides of the photograph. The photo is 8 1/2 x 11 inches. The non-reflecting glass you want to buy costs $0.10 per square inch. Figure out how much glass you need to buy, and the cost.
