Real-Life Decision Making

You are a water treatment plant operator at a large municipal treatment plant. During your routine checks, you find that the system is bubbling along as it should. You are glad to find this because it has been raining steadily, which will add more water to your system.

In addition, your city is hosting an international sporting event, and you expect many visitors to flock to the town.

Suddenly, you find a major problem in your pre-screening equipment. "This is where solid waste such as sticks and plastic are taken out," says George Martin, a water treatment plant operator.

Admittedly, you aren't an expert in this area. The operator at the other city plant is an expert. But you just called him last week to help you with another problem. It would be embarrassing to have to call so soon and ask for his help again.

What do you do?
