Real-Life Math

Your skateboarding talent has landed you some sponsors. These companies give you free stuff. By using their products, you help boost their sales.

You have sponsors for 5 different products: sunglasses, wheels, trucks, clothing and pads. Each time you appear on the cover of a magazine, your sponsors pay you if their logos are visible. Three of your sponsors pay you $500 per cover. Two pay you $400 per cover.

You also have your own skateboard design. Your skateboard sells for $150. You receive $5 for every one sold, with $1 going to charity (so you actually receive $4 a board).

You've recently won a major competition, so you expect to be rolling in the cash.

  1. You were on 5 magazine covers this month, each for a different sponsor. All logos were visible. How much will you receive from your sponsors?
  2. This month, 358 people each bought one of your skateboards. How much will you make off them? How much will the charity receive?
  3. How much in total did you earn this month?
