Real-Life Decision Making

A mother has brought her 10-year-old son, Travis, in to see you. He's been experiencing abdominal pain for some time.

You know that it's not uncommon for children that age to have functional stomach problems. This means there's no disease, just temporary stomach pain. In fact, about 12 percent of children Travis's age experience functional problems.

The mother tells you Travis has vomited several times over the past few weeks. Also, he's lost a little bit of weight. The past few days he's been feeling a bit better, but she's concerned.

What do you do?
