Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You rule against the red team.

This is the real-life decision that high school football referee Jeff Hilyer would make.

"The right answer is always to do the right thing," says Hilyer. "That's where integrity comes in. I'm there to be impartial and to be a positive role model for the young people."

The coach erupts in fury. He calls you every name he can think of, then stomps off hollering, "That referee is a total fool!"

It isn't pleasant. You feel stressed and uncomfortable.

Just as you suspected, the coach continues to call you an idiot for the next little while. However, you feel good about yourself because you know you did the right thing. You know you acted with integrity.

Eventually, the coach forgets about it and things return to normal. You are a respected referee and you continue to officiate at your local games.
