Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You recommend the cheaper but less reliable repair to the customer.

This is the real-life decision made by snowboard technician Jason James.

The customer has already indicated that he can't afford an expensive repair. You suggest a cheaper repair, telling the customer that you believe it will work, but aren't 100 percent sure.

The customer is happy that you are willing to try a repair at a cost he can afford. "He came in because he didn't know how to fix it himself," says James.

You rivet the board together and apply some epoxy. The board doesn't look in mint condition, but the rivets and glue will hold well. The customer is pleased that he will be able to get back on the mountain.

"You think about various techniques and then suggest what you think would work best for that customer," says James.
