Ski and Snowboard Technician

Real-Life Activities

Real-Life Math -- Solution

You are a ski and snowboard technician working in a repair shop. A rather large order has just been dropped off. You want to calculate how much it will cost for the repairs.

This is what you calculate:

5 sets of skis hot waxed
Ski hot wax: $5
5 x $5 = $25

2 sets of skis need a basic tune-up
Skis basic tune-up: $19
2 x $19 = $38

1 snowboard needs a hot wax
Snowboard hot wax: $8
1 x $8 = $8

3 snowboards need a basic tune-up
Snowboard basic tune-up: $25
3 x $25 = $75

1 set of skis needs an edge repair
Edge repair: $40
1 x $40 = $40

1 set of skis needs delamination fixed
Delamination repair: $20
1 x $20 = $20

2 sets of skis need stone grinding
Stone grind: $29
2 x $29 = $58

Add up the prices:$25 + $38 + $8 + $75 + $40 + $20 + $58 = $264

Bill gets a 10 percent discount.

$264 x 0.10 = $26.40
$264 - $26.40 = $237.60

It will cost Bill $237.60 to get the skis and snowboards tuned and repaired.
