Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You let the matter drop.

This is the real-life decision Joanne Canow would make. "You have to consider many things when you think that a child has the talent to do well in skating," says Canow. "The child has to have the talent, the financial support and the personality to want to compete."

If a child doesn't want to compete, doesn't have the drive or the desire, then often it isn't a good idea to push. Some children, just like some adults, want to do activities solely for their own enjoyment.

"These types of considerations are just as important as talent," says Canow. "If they don't have the personality, then it isn't wise to push them."
