Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You don't copy the programs.

This is the real-life decision that MIS specialist Mark Strandco would make. A lot of businesses have copied software programs on to several PCs when they have only a single user license, but he wouldn't do it.

"Not only is it illegal and unethical to run a copyrighted software program on two or more PCs simultaneously unless it's specifically allowed in the licensing agreement, it's also unethical to compel an employee to do so. People think they can't get caught, but that just isn't true. You can be audited, and that can mean big fines for the company and even for individuals in a company."

There are other problems that can arise from using pirated or copied software. You run the risk of installing computer viruses, which can result in lost time and money.

"A virus has the potential to destroy your entire business operations. Copying software might seem like a cheap way to go, but it can cost you big bucks in fines or debugging. It just isn't worth it."
