Real-Life Math -- Solution

For each event, you want to figure the difference between the prize money for 2nd place and the travel costs. The ones with the greatest difference offer the best potential.

Event 1
750 - 550 = $200

Event 2
1,000 - 450 = $550

Event 3
1,000 - 775 = $225

Event 4
1,500 - 600 = $900

Event 5
500 - 250 = $250

Event 6
2,000 - 1,200 = $800

You should play in events 2, 4 and 6.
