Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Mojuba, a student from Botswana, is considering applying to your university. He has a few questions about language proficiency requirements. These are the answers you give him:

  1. Will I have to demonstrate English-language competency for undergraduate studies or just for graduate studies?

Undergraduate students must show proficiency in the English language. Graduate students don't have to demonstrate this same ability.

  2. If I have a score of 585 on my TOEFL, am I eligible to register? I took the test three years ago.

Unfortunately, the university doesn't accept TOEFL scores taken more than two years prior to application for admission. The minimum score for acceptance is 570.

  3. The main language used at my school isn't English, but we are required to have a high standard of English. Could this be enough to show my proficiency in English?

Please send more details about your schooling. You may be able to show your English-language competence if you have completed the equivalent of five years of full-time instruction in a school or institution where the major language of instruction is other than English, but where the level of English proficiency required is equivalent to that of English-language schools in the U.S.
