Real-Life Math -- Solution

You must determine how much reimbursement you would receive if you trained for a period of 128 days.

First 30 days x $162 = $4,8600
128 days - 30 days = 98 days

The next 90 days fall into the "days 31 through 120" category, so you'll receive $75 for each remaining day.

90 days x $81 = $7,290

Your remaining 8 days are in the 121 and beyond category, so:

8 days x $40.50 = $324

First 30 days -- $4,860
Days 31 to 120 -- $7,290
121 and longer -- $324

Total --$12,474

You would receive $12,474.

"When we are overseas, when we travel, the cost of our travel is covered," says foreign service officer Sara Rosenberry. "We're given housing allowances or given housing, and we're given a per diem. It's pretty basic -- nothing I can't handle with my $2 calculator."
