Real-Life Communication -- Solution

You have noticed that one of the members has been including profanity in his posts to the forum. Here's what you could say in a message to the member:

Hi there,

Glad to see you've gotten comfortable with the community and I really like your enthusiasm. You have made some really good points, and I think your contributions really add value to the discussion.

The only thing is that we have a lot of younger users -- for that reason, we discourage profanity in the posts.

I have noticed that you frequently curse in your posts. I understand your passion and frustrations. If you can keep up the great posts and drop the profanity -- that would be great. I have been getting some complaints about the language used and I'd hate to delete all your posts.

I'd like to edit your posts to cut out the curse words so that they can remain on the forum.

Let me know if you agree with that and if you have any questions about the policies of the forum!

"This field is nothing but communication. While a community host's job involves a lot of decision-making and familiarity with and application of site policy, it also requires that they be able to communicate all of that to the users when it happens. The ability to quickly and diplomatically respond to questions and criticism is vital to this line of work. Strong language skills and willingness to listen carefully to both what people say and how they say it can make the difference between a serious misunderstanding and a happy resolution when conflicts arise," says Josh Millard. He is a moderator/administrator at Metafilter Network LLC.
