Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You tell the family that you don't know if this skeleton is their father's.

This is the real-life decision that forensic anthropologist Stefan Schmitt would make.

There simply isn't enough evidence to conclude that the skeleton is their father's. You would be deceiving the family if you led them to believe it was. They would end their search, and possibly never know what really happened.

"In those moments, one must make the right decision based on scientific fact, even though emotionally and morally this might be difficult," says Schmitt. "The toughest decision for any scientist is to state: 'I don't know what the truth is.'"
