"This is a very important skill," says John Lumpkin. He is a public health director. "First and foremost, as a director, I am the lead spokesman for the agency to the media and the public. I get interviewed for television, radio and newspapers on a regular basis."

Lumpkin also deals with various levels of political organizations and with federal agencies. "Another of my important duties is the ability to communicate the mission and vision of the agency to the employees to make sure that they understand the importance of doing their jobs well."
