Real-Life Communication -- Solution

You're a court clerk newly hired in a new remote territory called Newland. To learn about how the justice system will work in this region, you read notes and then talk it over with colleagues.

  1. Why did the Newland Court of Justice combine the power of the superior trial court and the territorial court?

They did so because this means that the same judge (rather than two judges) can hear all of the cases in an area.

  2. What is a circuit court?

A circuit court is a court that travels to many different locations to hear cases rather than staying in one building.

  3. Who travels with the circuit court?

A judge, a clerk, a court reporter, a prosecutor and at least one defense attorney travels with the circuit court.
