Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You schedule the judge so that there are no potential conflicts.

This is the real-life decision that court clerk Mike Finney would make.

"It's important to make good decisions when you're arranging the judge's calendar," he says. "Everything has to flow efficiently. You can't have the judge two places at one time."

The court clerk is responsible for booking times in the courtroom and following the progress of lawsuits into the system. "As far as scheduling the judge in the courtroom, it has to be properly organized."

In this case, you talk to the conference organizers about the possible conflict. By speaking with them, you're able to arrange a later time for the keynote address -- after the courts have closed for the day.

In this way, you avoid any potential problems and also make it possible for the judge to have the honor of being the keynote speaker.
