Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You decide to get the maintenance technicians to fix the helicopters.

They are repaired within the hour.

One of the pilots slides into the cockpit and starts up the helicopter. The engine won't turn over. Not good. Something has gone wrong with an engine that you just inspected.

The manager comes out and is furious. "What kind of technician are you? You almost let a defective helicopter in the air! You could have easily killed the pilot if the aircraft had malfunctioned in the air."

"You have always got to think safety," says Tom Seagrave. He is an aviation maintenance technician. Everything else comes second.

Letting economic concerns override safety will only lead to trouble down the road. Management would be disappointed with the loss in profits, but it's even harder to recover from an accident.
