Insider Info

According to the Automotive Recyclers Association, the auto recycling industry employs more than 46,000 people at more than 6,000 businesses across the United States.

Auto recyclers in Canada and the United States recycle more than four million motor vehicles each year.

"Opportunities are good," says Brad Slater, marketing manager for the Automotive Recyclers Association.

"There's an increase in the recycling industry in general. In the past, cars were just recycled to get used parts. Now they are designed with consideration of how much of the vehicle can be reclaimed.

"A lot of our members are family-owned businesses that are passed down," says Slater. "They are able to sustain a good living."
