Insider Info

Additional Information

All programs are not created equal when it comes to hospital administration. You'll want to check out the reputation of a program before enrolling.

In particular, check to see where graduates from this program are in the industry. You want to know if they are stuck in low-level administration or if they are taking top jobs in prestigious hospitals.

"A good program curriculum should include courses that reflect the marketplace. Look for courses on home care services and long-term care. That should reflect the direction hospital administration is going," says Jim Pealow. He is the former president of an organization of health service executives.

Many have a master's degree in hospital administration, but a master's degree in business administration is another possible way to get into the industry.
