Real-Life Math

A site has just been chosen for opening meetings in negotiation discussions with a native band. Negotiators who will work at the first discussions have been chosen, and travel plans are now being arranged.

You and 3 other negotiators will fly to the site for 5 days of discussions. As team manager, you need to make some arrangements. "When you're managing your own negotiating team, you need to use some math," says Tracy St. Claire. She works for a treaty commission.

She says that negotiators at top levels also have to use math in their discussions and negotiations involving land use, land title and allowable resources. "When you get to higher levels, you begin to use math more," she says.

You and the 3 other negotiators will be flying to a northern coastal town. These are the expenses you will incur:

Airfare: $560 each
Daily food allowance: $60
1 hotel room, shared by 2 people: $90 each

If you're away 5 days and 4 nights, how much will it cost in total for all 4 people?
