Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You follow standard practice and put a long arm cast on the fractured arm.

While it's true that you are following procedure, you are not providing the best solution for your patient. It's your job to be creative in coming up with devices to help the patient function better.

Tom Byrne says you have to think about what you can give the patient that would help him live as normal as possible. "There are alternatives that are technically challenging. Do you have the ability to come up with an appropriate alternative?"

Each case is unique, and should be treated that way.
