Heck, you're easygoing. You expect to get the money later from Arnie, but you don't really think you'll ever see the money from this other passenger. But what's $1.25?

Things don't work out as planned. Other people on the bus see what's happening and wonder why they should have to pay when two passengers ride for free. One customer is especially angry and threatens to report your action to your supervisor.

"You have to use your own judgment in these decisions, but it's usually best to stick to the policy of no fare, no ride," says bus driver Bob van Briesen.
