Demographers need a bachelor's degree.

Most university academic advisors recommend starting with a bachelor's degree in one of the social sciences. By the second year, you can include courses on statistics, marketing and human geography.

Demographer John Fetto, for instance, has a degree in human geography with a concentration in population geography and demographics from the University of Kansas.

The Gallup Organization requires a master's degree in a related field.
