Additional Information

Getting started as a barn manager doesn't necessarily require any formal education. However, knowledge of horses is essential. More and more managers are earning degrees in equine science, animal science or a related field.

Several colleges and universities in America specialize in equine studies, offering associate and bachelor's degree programs that prepare students to work in many aspects of the field, including stable management.

Farm hands can work at stables with little or no training at all. Working on a farm is a good way to figure out if you're cut out for the long hours and hard work.
