Real-Life Communication

As an employment and placement specialist, you help people get work. You know that a person's resume and cover letter are extremely important. They provide the first impression the employer has of the applicant. If there are errors on either one, the applicant probably won't be considered.

You also know that many people rely too much on software to catch their errors. They figure spell-check is foolproof. But you know better. You know that spell-check doesn't catch words correctly spelled but incorrectly used.

You're looking over a cover letter for a student. See if you can find all six mistakes.

Dear Ms. Tidwell:

I am responding to your advertisement in the Baltimore Times of Oct. 12 for the entry-level position of bookkeeper. As my resume indicates, I appear too fit the candidate description as out lined in your advertisement. I have a strong interest in the position and I believe my back ground, qualifications and work experience are well-suited to your company's requirements.

I received my bachelor of accounting from Astute College last month. In addition, I have worked as a summer intern with several businesses in the Baltimore area during the passed four years.

Please accept my enclosed resume in consideration for this position. I will contact you the first week of November to find out if we can arrange an interview.

Thank you for you're time. I am looking foreword to hearing from you.

Sincerely
Sally Smith
