Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You encourage him to find a part-time job while he keeps up with the extra courses. To help him manage his time, you coach him on time management.

A month later, he shows up in your office, exhausted. Even with better time management skills, balancing extra classes with a job is proving to be too difficult and he's now failing a class. He's considering dropping out again, and you're back to helping him find another solution.

"Decision-making skills are important because you are influencing someone else's life in a real way," says John Hagmann, a college academic advisor.
