Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You help him consider the pros and cons of the extra classes in order to determine if the extra classes are really a good idea in the long run.

After careful consideration, he decides it's better to cut back to a regular course load.

You refer him to the campus employment office to help him find a part-time job that allows some flexibility. You tell the student that by reducing his course load, it will take longer to complete the program, but you assure him that completing it later is still preferable to never obtaining the degree.

"Decision-making skills are important because you are influencing someone else's life in a real way," says John Hagmann, a college academic advisor.
