Real-Life Math

You're an oil well fire specialist. You have been called out to have a look at a well that is leaking hydrogen sulphide.

Two of the oil company's specialists are already there. They're older than you and still use the old percent system to measure the amount of chemical, instead of the more modern parts per million system.

You know hydrogen sulphide levels of 500 parts per million or more are lethal. When you show up, the workers tell you levels are at 23 percent.

If 1 percent equals 8,993 parts per million, what is the parts per million level at this well?

You can also determine whether the amount is lethal or not.
