Real-Life Math -- Solution

How much growth hormone should you prescribe for a month?

The first step is to determine the child's weight in kilograms.

25 pounds / 2.2 pounds per kg = 11.4 kg

Hormone = 0.3 milligrams per kg x 11.4 kg
Hormone = 3.4 milligrams per week

For a month:

Hormone = 3.4 milligrams per week x 4 weeks
Hormone = 13.6 milligrams

"I am always calculating correct dosages," says Dr. Jean-Pierre Chanoine. He is a pediatric endocrinologist. "It's important to prescribe the correct amount, and that is often based on body weight."
