Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Here's what you could say:

"I'll use several customizing techniques to make your car into a hot rod. First, I will use an acetylene torch to cut out several key body parts. These cutouts will have a big impact on the overall look of the car.

"I'll also use add-ons, which as you can guess are added pieces of metal, usually in the form of a spoiler or fins. Because you want to create a strong muscle car, we will be doing some beefing up. In other words, the accessories we choose will be big -- and will help create a more powerful-looking vehicle.

"Finally, we'll do a split-coat for the base -- using at least two paint colors -- and we'll top it all off with some flames. In paint, that is. And the end result will be a car guaranteed to turn heads as it goes by."

Kenneth Kolisnyk is an autobody repair instructor. He says communication skills are important, "as they are in every [work] situation. The attitude, desire, punctuality, your basic employability skills -- these are the most important things," says Kolisnyk.
