Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You arrest him.

You arrest the man for creating a disturbance. The man fights the arrest, and it takes both you and your partner to wrestle him out. The children are crying and the woman is now yelling at you to stop. You feel bad and wonder if you did the right thing.

"Just because I don't like the way someone lives has nothing to do with whether they've committed a crime," says Cassondra Rowntree, police officer.

"Officers have to learn to distinguish between a bad day and a criminal situation. It's totally different when you go and there is someone hurt or hit. If the woman's crying because she's been hit, or the man is threatening her, then you have to act."

Rowntree says this is the type of tough decision law enforcement officials hate to make. "You know whatever decision you make will affect the whole family," she says.
