Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You contact your supervisor and explain the problem.

You think to yourself, "I am sure that the university will support this issue. Still, I am not authorized to make this decision myself."

Your supervisor makes careful note and says that she will get back to you about it later.

A few days later, the supervisor tells you that university negotiators have spoken to government and they have arranged for an extension on the proposal deadline. Now you can present the issue to the committee when they return.

"Sometimes industry contacts ask me to participate in projects that do not meet university requirements," says Dan Lousier. He is an industry liaison officer. "When that happens, I have to exercise some judgment. I have to ensure that the issue is one that we want to deal with, and secondly, that I am the most appropriate person to deal with it."
