Additional Information

There is no training or educational program specific to industry liaison officers. Steven Price is the director of university-industry relations at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He says that in the U.S., most industry liaison officers have a background in science, business or both.

"A doctorate helps, but it is not critical," says Price. "I look for people who are enthusiastic about science -- biology, medicine, anything is fair game."

Price also looks for people who love universities and understand a university's role. Price also stresses that industry liaison officers must be excellent communicators and interested in many subjects.
