Real-Life Decision Making

A climber is trapped on the side of a mountain. She has suffered a broken ankle and is sitting on a small ledge. It's now 10 p.m.

The only way you could possibly get to her tonight is by helicopter. You could send someone in a harness to airlift her out. However, a storm has moved in. It's very windy and starting to rain. The rescue crew would be in a dangerous position.

If you wait until morning, you have the additional option of sending a climber down to her. Then she could be lowered down the cliff face.

Her family is distraught. They don't want her to spend the night on the cliff face. They know you can't rescue her once it gets dark in about an hour.

What do you do?
